Shooting being investigated

Gardaí have named the victim of last night’s shooting from Cromcastle Drive, Kilmore, in Dublin.

The 30-year-old was out having a drink in the Ardlea Inn, Maryfield Avenue, in Artane, when the incident occurred.

The incident happened shortly before 8.30pm and Mr Russell died in hospital at around 10pm.

Gardaí say both gunmen were over 6’0” tall and wore dark clothing and balaclavas.

A handgun was used in the attack and the gunmen made their getaway in a silver Nissan car.

Gardaí have collected CCTV images from the vicinity and have also interviewed customers who were in the pub at the time.

Charles Flanagan, Fine Gael’s Justice Spokesman, said the attack showed the need for better surveillance of criminals and those suspected of involvement in gangland violence.

Minister Sean Haughey, said the garda crackdown on crime was a constant battle and one which the public should support.
